SQORER aims to enhance the way scores are evaluated and tracked in the game of squash. It allows for a clear presentation of the match's score from both the players' and spectators' perspectives. The device does not interfere with the gameplay and gives the players the ability to monitor the score.
Everything started from the passion for playing squash and the desire to enhance its experience. I noticed that existing methods of score counting are insufficient, inconvenient, or inaccurate. For instance, smartphones, which are often used for score counting, are prone to damage, and their operation during the match is inconvenient.
Therefore, I decided to design a device that would be safe, intuitive, and non-intrusive to the game field. Thus, the idea for SQORER was born.
The development of SQORER involved analyzing available solutions and identifying areas for improvement. I utilized my skills in engineering and design to develop the concept of a device that uses optical sensors for touchless score counting. Collaborating with a company that manufactures squash courts was critical to ensure that SQORER could be mounted on the exterior side of the court without affecting the playing field.
After finalizing the design of SQORER, the prototyping process began. This was done with consideration for the specifics of a squash court to ensure seamless integration of the device. This process also included testing different materials to ensure the device's durability and reliability, as well as glass testing for optimizing the performance of optical sensors.
SQORER underwent a series of tests before implementation. These tests included functionality tests, reliability tests, durability tests, and user interaction tests. All of these were to ensure that SQORER meets all expectations and is ready to use on any squash court.
After successful testing, it was time to implement SQORER. Initially, the device was installed on a few local squash courts. This allowed us to collect invaluable feedback from players and observers, who were impressed by the conveniences that SQORER brings to the game. The flattering reviews and interest in SQORER confirmed to us that our device is ready to enter a broader market. Further plans for SQORER include further optimization, expanding functionality, and introducing it to squash courts worldwide.
